Doodles With Daddy #1

Doodles With Daddy...#1

So, officially, in our household I'm the artist. But hang on a minute, how dare I covet that title! My other half has over 20 years experience in print, graphics editing and retouching. Granted, he doesn't tend to draw anymore but that's not to say he can't or never did.
For a lot of people drawing is something they used to do as children, reserved for a place in the past. Who has time to draw (unless you're lucky and it's your job) with the busy constraints of life today?
Our 5 year old daughter gets a lot of enjoyment out of drawing and over the last few months i have seen that this drive in her has rekindled my partner's passion for doodling.

It's joyful to watch the two of them giggling away over funny faces, or a particular challenge that Daddy has set. Perhaps as a professional artist I am in some ways less spontaneous when it comes to picking something to draw, a bit more safe! Paul's choices are inspired...pantomime baddies, fruit with funny faces and my favourite...zombies!

Scary subject matter is not out of bounds and quite rightly. It  is somehow made more comical and less worrying for a little one who might be wondering what's lurking under the bed at bed times. If she's worried what better way to confront the fear than by drawing a funny picture of it?

My personalised T-Shirt!!

Recently I got the chance to get one of my designs printed on a T -shirt and here is the result! I'm really pleased with how my 'love birds' design has turned out and the little Fi&Me logo at the bottom adds a cute touch too. I will be making this design into wedding stationery in a variety of colours very soon. I chose the lady-fit scoop neck T-Shirt in sky blue because I used to have a similar T-shirt back in the 90s, and this style reminded me of it. It's really comfortable, although I opted for medium and it's a little tight fitting so a large may have been better - however, with Easter having just gone by I can probably blame the chocolate for that! The site has lots of choice for both men and women in terms of style and colour and the service was really efficient with the finished T arriving a matter of days after I placed my order. I'd definitely use them again. Lu and I are thinking of getting matching...

Pencil Themed Blog Design

So, I'm thinking of having a little re-vamp of my blog to focus more in-depth on drawing...and not just my own. Here are some ideas for a new banner and a cute little pencil character. Let's call her Penny for now! Any comments and feedback welcome xx fionaillustrates.com fiandme.co.uk All images are copyright fiona meakin illustrations 2012, all rights reserved.

Fit and Healthy BEDM #5

I'm really behind with my BEDM challenge but I'm determined to complete it! Here goes...      I've not had a particularly healthy tea this evening, but when I am in ’getting fit’ mode, there is no better way for me than Pilates. I get a lot of my ideas for illustrations and off-shoot projects when I take part in a class and that must be down to the meditative nature of it. Plus, I have a great, motivational teacher. If you’re interested you can read about Joseph Pilates, the founder at the link below. Joseph Pilates
